Cornerstone Junior School – Mukono Celebrates International Women’s Day
At Cornerstone Junior School – Mukono, International Women’s Day was commemorated with engaging activities aimed at deepening pupils’ understanding of its significance.
The day began with a thought-provoking talk show led by the Social Studies department. Pupils learned about the importance of International Women’s Day and the remarkable contributions of Ugandan women to national development. The department encouraged pupils to view their mothers as everyday heroes, emphasizing the vital roles women play in society.

In the afternoon, the English department organized a lively debate on the motion: “Having More Women in Leadership Can Solve Global Problems.” The discussion brought forward key arguments on equity, effective and collaborative leadership, social welfare, economic transformation, leadership barriers faced by women, and the value of diverse perspectives in leadership.
The debate was intense, with compelling arguments from both sides. In the end, the opposition won by a narrow margin of just one point.
Conclusion
Through these activities, pupils gained a deeper appreciation of International Women’s Day and the immense contributions women have made to their lives and the nation. The discussions and debate not only shaped their perspectives on gender equality and leadership but also inspired them to recognize their own potential in contributing to their country’s progress.
