Upper Primary Teachers

The Cornerstone Primary Curriculum

This enrols children from P.1 to P.7 both boarding and day.

The curriculum is designed to:

  • Develop confidence and esteem in the pupils.
  • Stimulate exploitation of our pupils’ talents and imparts good values.
  • Stimulates language development, thinking and motor skill.
  • Develop Social skills.
  • Develop a positive attitude towards learning and work.
  • Encourage experimentation and exploration skills.
Classroom Environment

Teachers fulfil their professional obligations by:

  • Making schemes of work
  • Update lesson notes
  • Do lesson planning/ preparation
  • Making and using instructional materials during the learning and teaching.

The teaching/learning process is supervised, audited and assessed by administrators and HODs. Through Audit meetings feedback on areas of improvement is given.

We emphasize actual teaching other than the drilling of children.

All learners are encouraged to buy at least a reader each term and/ or borrow from the well-stocked school library to enhance reading culture.

As regards assessments, children are tested at the beginning of the term, fortnightly, midterm, and at the end of the term.

Weekly assessment through weekend assignments is also done on what is taught in that week. Homework is also given for individual learners’ practice.

Academic Board meetings are held thrice a term to analyze children and teachers’ performance throughout the term.

All this is achieved from the strength of the tireless and dedicated Headmistress, team of administrators and committed teachers.

Educative “study trips” and programmes are periodically arranged for the teachers and learners.

Through all these, we instill knowledge, values and life skills into our children.

The Nursery Curriculum

This enrolls children from age of 2 years and 7 months to 3 years in Baby classes. Our Nursery section caters for ages between 2.7years to 6 years and the curriculum ensures extensive development.

Cornerstone Junior School nursery section has been ranked number one in the provision of nursery education in Mukono District, by many parents and guardians. This is attributable to the quality of teaching and care provided to the young learners.

Nursery Pupils in class

The Nursery section has three classes; Baby class, Middle class and Top classes. Baby class, in turn, has Baby Green and this is for first-time learners of 2.7 to 3 years, Baby Yellow is for first-time learners of 4 years, and Baby Blue is for first-time learners above 4 years. Top 1 receives Middle-class members. Top 2 receives Baby Yellow members while Top 3 receives those from the Baby Blue class. The children get a wide range of learning experiences and we strain for the socially, spiritually, morally, intellectually, emotionally and physically development of each learner.

Each class has 2 qualified nursery teachers who are well equipped with methods of early childhood education and care. This loving and ready to serve team is responsible for our young learners at school. Cornerstone Junior School has developed its unique nursery curriculum over the years which are an infusion of a collection of ideas, materials and methods from teachers and external facilitators over the years.

This curriculum has enabled us to provide and maintain the provision of quality education to our learners. Upon successful completion of the Nursery Curriculum, Top Class pupils get graduated to Primary One.

We have spacious classrooms that are designed to help our children make significant developmental gains, communicate more successfully and work well personally and with other learners.

To continue the learning process in and outside the school; A rich Holiday package is provided every holiday.

Learners, especially of Top class, borrow young readers from our Library to enhance reading from an early stage.

We have a daycare facility for pupils whose parents have no reliable home care facility until they return from work in the evening. The daycare children are given a nice and nutritious lunch. They then have an opportunity to interact with their class teachers, fellow learners and the classroom environment, an activity that has been found to enhance reading and writing. We provide very comfortable beds to enable rest from the long tiring day.

They then take a nap at around 3:00 pm and wake up with a cold drink, before returning home at 4:30 pm.
